Hiking trail Monti

 

Today's Trek allows us to admire the beautiful natural pools of the Rio Crasta river that crosses the Gallura, between the municipality of Monti and its forest property of Monte Olia. We cross the realm of water which, with its slow pace, has modeled the granite forming wonderful natural pools set in a frame of Mediterranean maquis that preserves its wild nature intact. We walk along a path with medium gradient, only made challenging in the warmer months by the intense sun. Wreathy juniper bushes, thorny brooms, strawberry trees, myrtle, lavender and wild rosemary, figs, holm oaks and oaks grow all around us.

The water of the marvelous pools is uncontaminated so it is possible to swim in each one of them, these waters, in some points of torrential nature, are the ideal habitat for Sardinian trout. We can taste the pecorino Canestrano Thaerra, the sweet Fiocco di Piredu, the sausage, the ricotta and the sausage with the spianata. All accompanied by a good Vermentino di Gallura
